APPLICATION PROCESS

1. COMPANY REGISTRATION

  • Company must be registered with:
  • Expatriate Services Division (ESD) under the Immigration Department of Malaysia, or
  • MDEC / MSC Malaysia, MIDA, Central Bank (BNM), BiotechCorp, or other approving agencies (depending on sector).
  • Submit company profile, business license, SSM documents, and company organization chart

2. POSITION APPROVAL

  • Apply for Expatriate Post Approval via the respective approving agency or ESD portal.
  • Provide justification for hiring foreign expertise (e.g. specialized skills not available locally).
  • Once approved, a Post Approval Letter will be issued.

3. EMPLOYMENT PASS APPLICATION

  • Submit the Employment Pass (EP) application through the ESD online system.
  • Required documents include:
  • Passport copy (all pages)
  • Offer letter / employment contract
  • Education certificates
  • Latest resume / CV
  • Company supporting letter
  • Pay the required immigration fees.

4. APPROVAL & VISA WITH REFERENCE (VDR)

  • Upon approval, Immigration issues Visa with Reference (VDR).
  • The expatriate must apply for an entry visa at the nearest Malaysian Embassy / Consulate before entering Malaysia.

5. ENTRY TO MALAYSIA

  • Upon arrival, the expatriate enters with the VDR and proceeds to the ESD counter for verification.

6. EP ENDORSEMENT

  • Submit the passport for EP sticker endorsement at the Immigration Department.
  • Typical validity: 1—2 years, renewable.
  • Category breakdown:
  • EP Category l: Salary > RM10,000/month (valid up to 5 years)
  • EP Category II: Salary RM5,000—RM9,999/month (valid up to 2 years)
  • EP Category Ill: Salary RM3,000—RM4,999/month (valid up to 1 year)

7. DEPENDENT / MAID / PASS APPLICATION (IF APPLICABLE)

  • Dependent Pass for spouse/children
  • Social Visit Pass (Long-Term) for parents
  • Foreign Domestic Helper (FDH) if eligible (for EP Cat I holders)
